ENG INFORMATION SHEET
An extensive evaluation is required at times to determine the cause of dizziness or unsteadiness. The object of the evaluation you are scheduled for is to be certain that there is no serious disease and to try to pinpoint the exact site of the problem.
Please read the following information carefully. It will be helpful on the day of your appointment:
All life-sustaining medications (such as insulin, blood pressure and heart medications, seizure-controlling medications, etc.) should continue to be taken. Please discontinue all other medications (*listed below) three days prior to your appointment. If you have questions regarding specific medications, please contact us at (719)867-7800.
*Alcoholic beverages; anti-dizzy pills; sleeping pills; narcotics of any kind; tranquilizers; over-the-counter cold or allergy medications; antihistamines; medications which contain any of the above.
Please refrain from food and tobacco for four hours before the test.
Please refrain from wearing any eye makeup (especially mascara).
Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing during the test, as you will be required to assume a number of different head and body positions. Women, please wear pants or bring a pair of shorts or sweats with you.
Testing will include some or all of the following:
Following with your eyes various stationary or moving lights.
Placing you in various head and body positions to see if those maneuvers make you dizzy.
Passing warm and cool air through a small tube placed in your ears.
A variety of eye, head, and body movements will be recorded during these procedures. You should allow 60 to 90 minutes for your appointment.
